Chunky Book Pages

I spent the day at my good friend Jill Shulse's studio. She has a beautiful studio with a window and patio door overlooking the Onion River. Our goal for the day was to work on our pages for the chunky book that Kathy Beringer is hosting for RAEvN's Nest Art Retreat. Jill cut out 43 pairs of wings. I thought it was going to be a lot of work when she showed me the idea but I didn't want to discourage her because the design was awesome.

I drew one of my soulful birds over a photo of myself as a starting point for my pictures. I was a bit worried that I wouldn't finish them in time. So much to do to get ready for the retreat yet.

I am looking forward to the next time I can work with Jill in her studio. I seem to get more done, the time passes quickly, and it is wonderful to be able to bounce ideas off one another. Plus she is well stocked so I don't have to worry too much if I forget to pack a supply.

Garage Sale Treasures

I found these two boxes at a garage sale. They were used as a teaching aid for different fasteners. What an exciting find. I have some assemblage ideas in mind. I hope to post finished projects in the near future

Banner

I finally made a banner for this blog today. I used an oil painting of mine for the base. I painted it in 2005. We hit a record number of overcast days that Winter. In December 2005 in Milwaukee, Milwaukee set a record for the area with 17 consecutive days with cloudy skies and no sun. I depend on the sun for happy rays.

The raven has found a treasure - TIME - a recurring theme in my art. The year I painted it is represented by the hands on the watch. I'm not sure it's what I want for my banner or if it needs more work. At least it is more interesting than just the blog name.

Yearbook Photos

I have so much work to do ... but I found this fun site. It lets you upload your photo to add to different yearbook pictures from different years. I found several new hip, groovy, happening and awesome hairdo's. I think that they look hysterical. Below is the link so you can have fun too. Studio Dogs

Still organizing pictures... Here is a corner of my studio with my faithful dogs Ziggy & Valentine. I also have a third boston terrier Rufus. I am still looking for his picture to post. I adore my dogs. They always make my day a little brighter.

Cedarburg Artists Guild Fall Show

My mixed media monoprint Garden Girl was juried into the Cedarburg Artists Guild Fall Show "No Boundaries. The show is opens with an artists' reception Friday evening, September 5, 2008 from 6-9pm at the Cedarburg Cultural Center. The exhibit and sale of art in all media is free and open to the public and represents over 100 pieces of original art from local artists who live or work in Ozaukee and Washington Counties.

Regular exhibit hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday 12pm-4pm.

Art Quilts at Play

I'm looking forward to seeing the book. The project ideas were very intriguing and I am anxious to see how the other artists were inspired.

Art Day

I have been busy organizing photos on my computer. There wasn't much organization at all prior. I found pictures by trying to remember the date they were taken. One of my goals this year is to organize "all" of my pictures.

Found this picture of Jill Marie Shulse, Bernie Berlin and I at Starbucks. One of the stops on our Art Shopping Day earlier this Summer.

I feel like I have been treading water lately getting things done.

Garden Girl

Time is flying by this Summer. Here is the latest Mixed Media over Monoprint that I have finished. I am planning on submitting it for the Cedarburg Artists Guild Fall Show sponsored by the Cedarburg Cultural Center. I have named her Garden Girl. About the extent of my gardening this Summer :) She is a found object image. From the background monoprint she grew. The size of the artwork is 22"x 30". I'll post later as to whether or not it was accepted for the show.

Anatomy Man

This is another mixed media print titled "Anatomy Man". It started with a background similar to the one posted 4-29-08. Anatomy Man is another found image. The horizontal bars in the background reminded me of a rib cage and the looping organic forms reminded me of intestines and other vessels. After it was done I was wondering how I had come up with that pose. Later, while browsing through a book of mine titled "Mechanics of the Mind" I was reminded of the old plate of a skeleton that I had viewed at an earlier time. I find it interesting how that image (pose) was retained in my mind.

Casey Nugent Senior Show

Mark and I drove to Menomonie to see Casey's Senior Show at the University of Wisconsin Stout on Friday. Casey is going to school for Industrial Design. He has one more class to go next Semester. Casey is hoping to get an internship for the Summer or Fall. Anyone interested?... plug from Mom.

His senior project was a compressed air engine. Casey designed and built everything shown including the display stand.

I enjoyed seeing all of the other students projects. The Senior Shows for Interior Design and Graphic Arts were also included.

The white colored models of the engine and car were actually printed from a computer program. Pretty amazing!

The last car is a clay model.

I'm quite proud of him! Makes me want to go back to school.

Rearing Haflinger

"Rearing Haflinger" is the name of this monoprint. A Haflinger is a breed of horse with similiar coloring and body style as my print. The background is similiar to ones used for some of my chameleons. I found an image of a horse in the background and developed it by accentuating images that went with the horse theme. I love how this horse emerged from the background. I would have never thought to make one in this pose and style simply starting with a piece of white paper with the idea of making a horse.
